The Best Distance Golf Balls: For Every Golfer [2024]

Last Updated – Feb 14, 2023

346 yard drive on the golf simulator using the best distance golf ball for my swing speed.

If you want to crush the ball off the tee, like I did with this 346-yard bomb, selecting the right golf ball can make a world of difference. There are tons of “distance golf balls” on the market, but the problem is, they all respond differently to different swing speeds.

The best distance golf ball for a golfer with tour-level speed may not be the longest golf ball for a senior golfer with slower swing speeds or the weekend golfer with a mid-level swing speed.

We have personally tested every golf ball in this article, leveraging highly skilled amateur golfers with varying swing speeds, to identify which golf balls perform the best in each swing speed category.

But we also recognize that distance alone is not the only factor golfers use when choosing a golf ball, so we offer alternatives at various price points and performance characteristics that are also great options when it comes to maximizing distance.

Whether you’re looking for maximum distance, or a combination of distance and performance, you need to take your swing speed into consideration.

Use the calculator here to find out which category you’re in.

Best Distance Golf Balls

Best Overall – Titleist Tour Speed

Titleist Tour Speed Distance golf balls

The Titleist Tour Speed performs really well for golfers of any swing speed. It was designed for maximum speed, and it delivers.

I would recommend the Tour Speed to any Low or Mid-handicappers. Seniors, or other slow-swing speed golfers looking to add a few yards of distance will certainly benefit from the Tour Speed as well.

I would not recommend the Tour Speed to MOST high-handicappers, those should consider the best budget option which is featured next on this list.

Quick Facts

The Titleist Tour Speed golf ball is made with 3 piece construction and a new proprietary Titleist urethane cover. They are rated by the USGA as low spin with a driver and medium spin with short irons. They have a 346 quadrilateral dimple design and a soft feel.

You can get the Tour Speed golf balls in white or yellow.

They are currently rated 4.7 out of 5 stars on Amazon from about 500 reviews. Here’s what customers have to say about them.

“Love the feel of this golf ball, a little harder than a Pro V but still has great feel around the green.”

Best Budget – Bridgestone e6

Bridgestone e9 Golf Balls for Distance and Control

The Bridgestone e6 gets great distance throughout the bag and more short-game spin than almost any other 2-piece golf ball on the market.

I would recommend the e6 golf ball to beginners, slow swing speed players, mid to high handicappers, and anyone looking for a cheap option for a quality golf ball.

I would NOT recommend the Bridgestone e6 for low and mid-handicap golfers who are looking for maximum greenside performance and who are willing to pay a bit more for a 3-piece ball. Golfers in this category may consider the Vice Pro instead.

The Bridgestone e6 golf ball is made with 2 piece construction and a single cover design. They are rated by the USGA as low spin with a driver and low spin with short irons. They have a 330 dimple design and a soft feel.

Titleist ProV1x Left Dash

Titleist ProV1x - Best distance golf ball

For golfers with a swing speed of 105+ mph, the ProV1x Left Dash gets more distance than any other golf ball on the market.

It also performs really well for golfers with swing speeds of 94 and below. For mid-swing speed golfers, you’ll get better performance out of the Tour Response or Vice Pro.

Due to its high price point, I would only recommend this golf ball for players with a mid handicap or better.

If you are skilled enough to produce spin around the greens and you’re looking for a bit more distance off the tee, I’d say go for it!

The Titleist ProV1x Left Dash golf ball is made with 4 piece construction and a single-cast urethane elastomer cover. They are rated by the USGA as medium spin with a driver and high spin with short irons. They have a 328 spherically-tiled dimple design and a slightly firm feel.

Bridgestone e9 Long Drive

Bridgestone e9 Golf Balls for Long Drive

For golfers with a swing speed of 105+ mph – If you are looking for maximum distance off the tee, the e9 Long Drive is a great option. It is a very low spin ball and performed really well off the tee.

The e9 feels a bit more firm than most of the Bridgestone lineup, and will not spin much around the greens. It is not made for short-game control, it is made for hitting bombs.

I would not recommend the e9 for golfers looking for more of a balance between distance and greenside control.

Quick Facts

The e9 Long Drive is made from 2-piece construction with a 1-piece cover. They are rated by the USGA as low-spin with a driver and low spin with a short iron.

They have a 330 dimple design pattern and are available in white, orange, yellow, and pink.

They are currently rated 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon from 200 reviews.

Vice Pro

Vice Pro Golf Balls

For golfers with swing speeds between 95 – 104mph, the Vice Pro performs exceptionally well for distance and overall performance. It is very comparable to the ProV1.

I would recommend the Vice Pro to anyone from low handicappers looking for a great performing ball at a reduced price, to high handicappers looking to improve their game.

I would not recommend the Vice Pro to golfers looking for the most inexpensive option, for that I would consider the Bridgestone e6.

Titleist AVX

For golfers with swing speeds below 95mph, the Titleist AVX performs exceptionally well for distance. It is a very soft feel golf ball with a penetrating ball flight.

I would recommend the AVX to low and mid-handicap golfers who are looking for maximum distance and greenside spin performance.

I would not recommend the Titleist AVX to golfers looking for an inexpensive option, those golfers should consider the Vice Pro Plus, or the Bridgestone e6 instead.

Vice Pro Plus

Vice Pro Plus Golf Balls

For golfers with swing speeds below 95mph, the Vice Pro Plus performs exceptionally well for distance. It is a firm golf ball that is marketed to players with higher swing speeds, but in my testing it performs really well for distance at a low swing speed as well.

I would recommend the Vice Pro Plus to low to mid handicappers with slower swing speeds, and who want to get good greenside performance at a discounted price. I would not recommend the Vice Pro Plus to golfers looking for a softer feel ball, for that I would consider the Tour Speed.

How to Choose Golf Balls For Distance

If you have an understanding of each of the factors below, I can tell you which golf ball meets your preferences on price, feel, performance…AND that will get you the most distance!

  1. Understand your swing speed
  2. Know your preferences for feel (soft vs. firm)
  3. Performance – Understand your ability to use, or inability to use, spin in the short game
  4. Know how much you’re willing to pay

Although I love hitting the ball as far as humanly possible, I have opted for a ball that gets me a few yards less off the tee. It’s not because I want less distance, it’s because the other performance characteristics of the ball and price appeal to me.

⛳️ I think it’s important for each golfer to consider these tradeoffs.

Understanding Your Swing Speed

Some golf balls perform very well at any swing speed, but most have a sweet spot. That’s why we’ve provided recommendations for overall performance and within the following swing speed ranges.

Use the calculator here to find out which category you’re in.

Why Swing Speed Matters When Selecting Distance Golf Balls

Why sort by swing speed? It’s becoming more common for manufacturers to specifically recommend balls based on swing speed. Vice and Bridgestone are doing this, to name a couple. If you are looking for maximum distance, matching a balls performance to your swing speed is critical.

Snapshot from Vice Golf showing swing speed recommendation for their golf balls.
This is a snapshot from Vice Golf, note the swing speed recco!

Again, note the swing speed recco from the manufacturer!

My personal testing on a GC3 launch monitor shows us that balls perform drastically different based on how hard they are hit. This has also been confirmed by golf ball manufacturers, which is why they are putting the recommendations on their balls.

As your swing speed increases, it puts more force on the ball and can cause a softer ball to compress and deform too much. This will make the ball lose some bounce off of the club face. I found this to be true when I’m hitting balls like the Srixon Soft Feel, Titleist TruFeel, and Callaway Supersoft.

Those 3 golf balls may perform really well for golfers with slower swing speeds, but for a faster hitter, they’ll cost you.

As I’ve been working to increase my swing speed with the Stack System, I’ve had to keep an eye on the ball I am using and reevaluate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Final Thoughts

These are definitely the best golf balls for distance on the market today. There are some really high quality golf balls out there. Some of them perform really well at one swing speed, but may not perform quite as well at other swing speeds.

Because of this, it’s important to consider golf balls that perform well in all categories, or at least understand what your swing speed is and choose one from the appropriate category.

Personally, I play a Vice Pro and probably lose about 5 yards off the tee. I am okay with that because I still get close to 300 yards, they cost significantly less when buying in bulk, and they feel great to me and perform really well around the greens.

I fall into the higher swing speed category, and if I played the ProV1x Left Dash, I’d get maximum distance. I don’t play them because they are very expensive and I like the feel of the Vice Pro’s better.

Bottom line, consider all of the individual factors for your own game. All of the golf balls on this list perform exceptionally well for distance. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out or post them in the comments.
